We have spoken to many "retirees" over the years who either continued working in some capacity, or went back to work or volunteer just months after retiring. Most of them could only "sit around" so long and decided to find something useful to do from hobbies, to volunteering, to returning to work somewhere.
In response to this, we began researching how people over 65, and indeed people over 50, performed in work. Studies revealed that senior adults stayed at a job ax longer than their younger counterparts. They also showed significant performance increases in the areas of Customer Success, Accounting, and management. Forward-thinking small businesses with employee "shortages" should really consider this workforce.
If dedicated working schedules are not your thing, consider volunteering at organizations that you are passionate about. Your expertise will always be needed as these organizations or groups are always short-staffed, and some eve end pay such as election workers or those who hand out freebies in price clubs like Costco.
No matter if you return to work or volunteer, you should consider seeking out a community of people to connect with. This can be those you work with, those you volunteer with, or groups from church or common hobbies. This, like the options above, keeps your mind sharp and combats loneliness and depression. Below are some resources that help all of this along with some helpful articles.
